HUMOR
Mix-Up Provides Nation's Schools Enough Money To Properly Educate Students
For those in need of a laugh, check this story from The Onion, America's news satire network.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Seven Steps to Becoming a 21st-Century District: AASA Summer Conference in Park City, Utah, June 22-24.

School Board Relations: AASA and the Aspen Group, LLC have partnered to offer a one-day workshop on Coherent Governance. Oct. 7, 2011, at AASA Headquarters in Arlington, Va.

Strategic Compensation: AASA members can receive a series of online courses developed by Battelle for Kids to help school leaders build competency around strategic compensation and provide districts considering reform with critical information to guide implementation of a compensation model that advances their improvement goals.

When Anecdotes Replace Data: In the May 2011 issue of The School Administrator magazine, AASA President Edgar Hatrick ponders the importance of accurate data points for school reform and the dangers when anecdotes replace data in decision making. The Board-Savvy Superintendent presents a five-point plan to cultivate a team mentality among school board members. In a guest column, an elementary school principal applies the lessons he learned about hospital operations to schools while caring for his prematurely born daughter. The profile highlights Penny Fisher, superintendent in Greenville County, S.C., and one of four finalists for the 2011 National Superintendent of the Year.
